What are school hours?

Escuela de Guadalupe’s hours are 8am to 4pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. On Wednesdays, students are dismissed at 3pm. Longer school days enable more learning, especially since our students study all subjects in two languages.

To access your student’s grades and other academic information, you must log into Veracross, our school’s information management system. If you need help logging in, please contact the front office at 303-964-8456.

In the mornings, we run a carpool down our alley, from the north end at 7th Avenue to the south end at 6th Avenue, beginning at 7:55 and ending at 8:15am. Late students must go through the front doors and check in with the front office.

In the afternoons, we run a carpool down the alley in the same direction between 4pm and 4:20pm. Students who are not picked up during that window will wait for their parents in the front office.

We do not offer an extended care program. However, students who participate in sports or extracurricular activities often stay after school to practice.

To report your child’s absence, you must call or email before 9am. Call 303-964-8456 or email BOTH of the following: miriam_orizaga@escuelaguadalupe.org and bianca_balderrama@escuelaguadalupe.org. When you call or email, you must provide your student’s name, grade and reason for absence. If you are going to the doctor, we need a note from the doctor, as well.

Please read the full Attendance policy in the parent handbook, El Librito, which is available on the Parents page of our website.

In order to pick your child up early, please email BOTH of the following: miriam_orizaga@escuelaguadalupe.org and bianca_balderrama@escuelaguadalupe.org. Please also email your child’s teacher. We prefer to know about early pick-ups 24 hours in advance.

We are always looking for future Lobos at Escuela de Guadalupe! If you are interested in enrolling your child in our school, please contact Sandra Garcia, Admissions and Financial Aid Director, at 303-964-8456 x226. For more information about our admissions and financial aid process, click here.

We offer daily hot lunch consisting of the following: milk, bread, grain, fruit and vegetables. The cost of daily lunch is $4.10, which is subject to change annually.

If you would like to apply for free / reduced lunch, you must complete a form in the front office. If you do not qualify for free / reduced lunch, you may order and prepay for hot lunch.

Students may bring a lunch from home. Fast food, sweets, soda, chips, chewing gum (etc.) are not allowed.

Please read the full Lunch policy in the parent handbook, El Librito, which is available on the Parents page of our website.

In order to email your child’s teachers, please log onto Veracross and locate the teacher’s email. You may also find all teacher emails in El Librito, which is available on the Parents page of our school’s website.

No medications, including aspirin, cough and cold medications (including cough drops), decongestants, or other over-the-counter or prescription medications, can be administered by school personnel, including a nurse, except under the following conditions:

A written order from an authorized prescriber must be on file at the school, stating:

  • Child’s name
  • Name of medication
  • Proper dosage of medication
  • Purpose of medication
  • Time of day/circumstances in which medication is to be administered
  • Anticipated number of days the medication must be administered
  • Possible side effects
  • Storage instructions

Whenever possible, the parent is required to be present to administer the medication. If the parent cannot be present, only a Registered Nurse (RN) or trained personnel, to whom an RN has delegated the task of administering medications, may administer the medication according to the written instructions of the licensed practitioner. Please ask the school office for a form and ask your child’s health professional to complete the form. The medication must be brought in a container properly labeled by a pharmacy or an authorized prescriber. These medications must be protected at school to prevent ingestion by the wrong child. Medication must be kept in a safe place to which students do not have access. The person(s) trained and delegated to administer the medication is (are) to maintain a daily record of the medication administered. Individual records of such medications administered by school personnel will be kept indefinitely.

We send a weekly newsletter to parents every Monday afternoon with upcoming events, important announcements, athletics schedules and more. All parents must read this newsletter to stay informed about school activities and parent responsibilities.

Parents are encouraged to join the Escuela de Guadalupe Parents Association, which runs multiple programs and events throughout the year. To learn more, contact Bianca Balderrama at 303-964-8456, x250.

Our Commitment to Safety

We’d like to take a moment to share some of the many ways that everyone at your school works everyday to keep your children safe. We believe we are on the forefront of school security measures, not only in our ability to respond to threats, but also in our ability to prevent them. Here are just a few of the trainings, relationships and efforts that we undertake regularly to ensure safety at Escuela de Guadalupe.

If you have any questions that are not answered on this page, please call the office at 303-964-8456.

Partnership with the Denver Police Department

We have a strong relationship with officers in the Denver Police Department, and particularly in our district, District 1. In the instances when we have called upon Denver PD for support, they have been responsive and prompt. Further, we are confident that when they hear of credible threats that affect our school, they will contact us immediately. We also have regular contact with the Denver Police Department’s School Violence Unit. This is a partnership that we foster through regular communication, and we are grateful for their ongoing support.

Unlike many other schools, we receive regular training in the Federal Incident Command System (ICS) and we have an identified Incident Command Team. The ICS is a standardized approach to incident management that can be used for emergencies, as well as for planned events. By utilizing this system, we ensure a coordinated response throughout our school, and with various jurisdictions and agencies, such as police and fire departments. Those who serve on the Incident Command Team take annual trainings and must pass Federal exams.

The mission of the Colorado School Safety Resource Center (CSSRC) is to assist educators, emergency responders, community organizations, school mental health professionals, parents and students to create safe, positive and successful school environments. Designated Escuela staff members take courses from the CSSRC on a regular basis to supplement our other trainings.

We are so committed to safety that, for the past several years, we have contracted with an outside Safety Consultant who regularly trains our staff and audits our facilities and procedures. With his guidance, we hold a monthly safety review and discuss any safety concerns, from carpool procedures to threat management.

At the beginning of each year, we conduct a dedicated Safety Week in which we practice a different drill each day and teachers guide age-appropriate conversations about what to do in each scenario. These include lockdowns, lockouts, shelter-in-place, and more. These discussions are designed to ensure students are informed and feel secure, without creating unnecessary fear. In addition to Safety Week, we conduct two drills each month throughout the school year. After every drill, our safety team holds a debrief to assess what went well and what can be improved.

Any school safety consultant will tell you that the number one way to prevent school violence is to foster a safe, positive school culture. This not only means that we must empower students, families, and staff to recognize and report any unsafe activities, but also that we create an environment where everyone feels safe and welcome. Through our Valores program, school counseling services, and our faith, we foster an environment that rewards Respect, Responsibility and Kindness. But a positive culture is everyone’s responsibility. We have your children at school for 8 hours a day and it is our duty to prepare them academically, socially and spiritually. You, their parents, are our number-one partner in this endeavor. It is imperative that the values we nurture during the school day are also nurtured at home.
