Escuela de Guadalupe

Faith Formation

Our Mission

Escuela de Guadalupe’s mission is to provide an academically excellent, Catholic education in English and Spanish to cultivate the next generation of community leaders.

Faith formation at Escuela de Guadalupe includes the following:

Daily Prayer

We begin every day with prayer led over the intercom by one of our middle school students alternating between Spanish and English each day.

  • The entire school attends Mass together every Tuesday morning at Presentation of Our Lady, which is across the street from Escuela de Guadalupe. Even our Pre-Kindergarten class attends Mass, escorted by their 8th grade buddies.
  • We also observe all Holy Days of Obligation by attending Mass as a school community.
  • Each grade, beginning in Kindergarten, is responsible for leading the Masses as readers and offertory gift bearers.

Students are introduced to religious concepts starting in Pre-Kindergarten and the religion curriculum advances as the students get older. The curriculum, Faith & Life, follows Archdiocese of Denver guidelines.

We provide the educational and prayerful preparation required for students to receive First Reconciliation in 2nd grade as well as First Communion and Confirmation in 3rd grade.

Escuela de Guadalupe students participate as altar servers during weekly masses and for all school masses held throughout the academic year.

Middle school students attend annual retreats on campus, culminating in an 8th grade retreat at Calwood Education Center.

Every year in the spring, the entire school community comes together to create a human rosary and to pray together, helping students feel the power of this sacred prayer tradition.

Throughout the year, our students participate in service projects by grade level.
Then, in the spring, the entire school spreads out across the Denver metro area to spend a day in service during the Sister Susan Swain Service Day, in honor of one of our founders. Projects include food service, garden cleanup, housing fixups, entertaining senior citizens, and more.

Every Friday during Lent, a different class leads the Stations of the Cross in Presentation of Our Lady Church to help us prepare as a community for the Sacred Triduum and Easter celebration.

We celebrate the feast day of our namesake by offering a special Mass, procession, and presenting the Virgin with flowers.

After Mass, our 5th graders will recreate the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe’s appearance to San Juan Diego.

We end the day with a special presentation by a group of Matachines to honor the ancestral and cultural, as well as the religious, significance of this day.

Every December, students reenact the story of Mary and Joseph in a traditional Mexican Posada. Students in grades 4 through 8 stand outside the school’s gymnasium door, singing a traditional song. Inside, Pre-Kindergarteners through 3rd graders respond in song, ultimately opening the doors to the “posada” (inn).

  • Our faculty live their Catholic faith and serve as role models to students learning about the Church.
  • Faculty begin their weekly meetings in prayer together.
  • Faculty who teach religion have the required credentials from a Catholic University or from the Archdiocese of Denver.
  • Faculty and staff gather for faith formation during every professional development day.
