Escuela de Guadalupe, a pioneering Catholic dual-language school in Denver, recently marked its 25th anniversary with its first-ever alumni reunion. This historic gathering celebrated the school’s rich history, significant achievements, and the enduring connections among its community of students, families, and educators.
25 Years of Students Come Home
Escuela’s Principal Mariella Robledo and President Michelle Galuszka welcomed students from across the school’s history, including alumni who were part of Escuela’s very first class in 1999. These alumni were pioneering students, as were their parents, helping to launch a school unlike any other in Colorado: a dual-language Catholic school of excellence.
Their pride was evident, as they walked around, talking to current staff and taking in the “new” building that the school now occupies. The school originally opened in a small building at the corner of 34th and Pecos streets. Today, it inhabits a much larger building at 6th Avenue and Julian Street.
“This is probably the only reunion you could get me to attend. I loved Escuela and it had a huge impact on my life.”

“It is pretty emotional to see these students come back and tell us about their amazing lives,” said Robledo, who has served at Escuela for 20 years and knew many of the alumni personally. “They are doing so well! I remember when they were just little kids and now they are adults with careers, marriages and children!”

A Legacy of Dual-Language Excellence
Founded in 1999, Escuela de Guadalupe was established with a mission to provide exceptional dual-language education rooted in faith, academic rigor, and cultural pride. It has since grown into a cornerstone of bilingual education in Denver, fostering academic success and a deep appreciation for Spanish and English fluency. Today, the school serves over 220 students from Pre-Kinder through eighth grade and remains committed to its mission of educational excellence.

As the school reflects on 25 years, several accomplishments highlight its legacy:

The Inaugural Alumni Reunion
Held in December 2024, the alumni reunion brought together graduates from across the school’s history, providing an opportunity to reconnect and celebrate shared experiences. Attendees reminisced about their formative years at Escuela de Guadalupe and shared stories of how the dual-language education model has impacted their academic and professional journeys.
Several alumni have returned to the school as parents, enrolling their children to continue the tradition of bilingual education. This generational connection exemplifies the school’s lasting influence on its students and the community.
