January Feature: Arrupe Jesuit High School Work Study Student, Abigail Martinez

by Jasmine Sinner

As the Escuela de Guadalupe continues to grow, we are always in need of excellent and consistent resources to make our school function efficiently. Extra hands to help out with classroom projects, student supervision, and general administrative help, among a myriad of other needs, are incredibly appreciated.

That is where our Arrupe Jesuit High School work study students come to the rescue! Aside from being excellent role models for the Escuela students they work with, thanks to the dedication of Arrupe's hard-working students, our teachers and office staff have extra help to make it possible for us to provide Escuela's children with the best education we can make available to them.

Throughout the rest of the school year, we'll be highlighting our amazing AJHS students that have work study assignments here at Escuela de Guadalupe. Read on to learn a little more about Abi Martinez, one of those amazing students whom our entire staff is incredibly grateful for. From assisting teachers with compiling and preparing materials for classroom projects, to working in classrooms assisting students, to helping Development staff with mailings and event preparation - Abi has an incredible work ethic and is a wonderful asset we are so proud and grateful to have.

Your full name: Abigail Ileen Martinez

Your grade in school: Junior at Arrupe Jesuit High School

Where are you from, originally?

I’m originally from Denver, Colorado.

What is your dream job/some of your big goals in life?

I’m not certain what I'd want my dream job to be, I want to find something that excites me and then I plan to use that and work with it. So this year, junior year, I want to start putting myself out in the world more just to see what’s there. I just know there are so many things that I haven't had the chance to see or do to know what interests me the most. Although I'm not a picky person nor will I complain about tasks but I want to wake up every morning and be excited to go to work, like I do here at Escuela. A big goal of mine is to gain the proper mindset and balance to be financially stable in the future. But for now, I’m going to do everything in my power and try to achieve these goals and work hard for them because I know these things don’t come easy.

What’s your favorite part about being an Arrupe student?

My favorite part about being an Arrupe student has to be getting the chance to learn outside of school. I know not many students get the opportunity to get work experience and I'm absolutely more than grateful to be part of that.

What is your favorite part about working at Escuela?

I don't have a specific favorite part - I love working here, the kids, the staff, the work is all great and I’m thankful that they gave me the opportunity to work for them and assist them. This is such a beautiful environment that makes me feel so comfortable and I honestly hope to work here next year as a senior as well!
