In the fall of 2015 we welcomed Sandra Garcia to our team as the Admissions and Financial Aid Director. Having been part of the Escuela community as a parent for six years, she has brought a unique and valuable perspective to this important job. Te apreciamos, Ms!
Where are you originally from?
I was born in Chihuahua, Mexico and immigrated with my family when I was 9 years old. I’ve been living in Denver ever since.
What was your "Dream Job" when you were in elementary school?
My dream job was to become a teacher. I would “play teacher” with my younger sister--writing on our closet door with chalk. I taught her how to multiply before her class covered multiplication at school.
As I grew older I decided that I didn’t want to become a teacher because I would get attached to my students and be sad every time the school year was over, so I decided to pursue an office job since I had always loved the idea of having a desk and doing paperwork.
When/why did you choose to join the team at Escuela de Guadalupe?
I joined the Escuela staff in the fall of 2015 but I’ve been involved with the school for 6 years as a parent, ever since I enrolled by sons as kindergartners.
What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is connecting with the different families that come to Escuela. I have been on the other side of Admissions and Financial Aid operations as a parent for so long that I think I am able to address the needs of prospective parents/families from not only an administrative perspective, but also a more personal, emotional side.
What are your favorite sports/hobbies? Special gifts/talents?
My favorite sport is Volleyball, but I don’t get to play it too often. During my free time on the weekends I enjoy dining out and watching movies. If we don’t make it to the theaters we’ll just have “Family Movie Night” at home, which my kids really enjoy. There’s even a special section of the couch that one of my son’s refers to it as the VIP area, reserved for his grandma.
